When is a smart–card QCQES required?
The main advantage of a qualified electronic signature on a smart card (USB token) is that it allows the company UIC (EIK) to be recorded. This makes it a good choice for companies and other entities that need to identify themselves with more than a personal number (EGN) to access specially regulated services, such as:

Medical programs and websites – issuing sick–leave notes, prescriptions, outpatient records – for all physicians, dentists, and veterinarians.

Access to the Notary Chamber – access for all notaries and assistant notaries.

Filing documents with the National Revenue Agency (NRA) – tax returns, reports on income paid, payment of social security contributions, requests for refunds of overpaid amounts, certificates (e.g., for no outstanding liabilities, data declared to the NRA, etc.).

Customs clearance of parcels – when importing shipments from outside the EU, where VAT was not prepaid at purchase.

Public procurement – submitting applications via the Centralized Automated Information System (CAIS).

Inquiries with the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) – e.g., reports from the Central Credit Register on indebtedness, data from the Bank Accounts and Safe Deposit Boxes Register, or access to other public information.
