What is the difference between an eSignature and an eSeal?
A qualified electronic seal is something you can apply to a document if you want to certify its origin. For instance, if you’ve put your name on a project, report, idea, etc., electronically sealing it will help preserve its integrity. The eSeal confirms that the document is original, complete, and unique.
On the other hand, electronic signatures are, as the name implies, for signing documents, contracts, etc., between two or more parties. They are useful when you need all parties involved to agree to the contents outlined in the document.
So, while qualified eSignatures are perfect for signing agreements between several parties, the electronic seal is more suitable for preserving a set of data that belongs to you or your business.
When would I need to use the validation solution?
This service is for scenarios when you want to check if electronic signatures, timestamps or seals already present in a document are authentic. By validating the eSign, eTimestamp, or eSeal with our solution, you can be sure that it is genuine rather than fake.
What is the preservation service and how does it differ from eTimestamps?
The preservation solution follows a similar logic to our eTimestamp, but it renews over time. While the eTimestamp can confirm a file or piece of data existed at the time of stamping, preservation periodically refreshes the eTimestamp on a file.
For instance, if you want to always have a current eTimestamp on a set of data, using the preservation solution can come in handy. This way, you won’t have to manually re-stamp the file, eliminating the human error factor (e.g. forgetting to renew the stamp).
In what scenario might I need to use the website authentication service?
This solution can provide information about the ownership of a website. As such, it is suitable if a site or page you’re looking for has many clones and you wish to find the original.
Alternatively, finding out about the owners of a website can be useful if you are trying to determine if there is a conflict of interest in a situation, say, if two seemingly unrelated websites actually belong to the same organization.
Any situation where you need to learn who owns a web page is a good occasion to use the authentication service.
